We went to Maui. We stayed in Hana, in the little guesthouse behind Ken & Ruth's house. It was nice but too short a visit. Here are some pictures that we took. Clicking on the thumbnail will bring up the full-size JPEG (1280x960).

Beginning the walk down to Red Sand beach. Our pal John said he knew a couple that had been married on the little island in the distance.
Julie about to get knocked down by a very large wave. We did end up swimming (naked! eek!) at red sand beach, but we stayed this side of the big rocks.
Fun with color.
Walking back to the car.
Where the lava thought to fight the sea.
Smirking on the Seven Pools trail.
Julie looked back, and was turned to stone.
A waterfall of green.
Officer, there's a monkey in that tree!
The clouds rolled in, and the warm rains came to free us from bugs. Yay!
A double-waterfall into a deep and scary cave-pool.
The waterfall at the end of the trail (top half)...we stood almost underneath and were instantly soaked by the spray. It was violently cold in a refreshing kind of way.
And the bottom half of the waterfall, with falling rocks sign. Unfortunately no rocks fell while we were there.
Trippin' through the bamboo forest.
The bamboo forest was dark, musty, and spooky.
We dined regularly at the Hana-Maui, this evening we got the best seat in the restaurant, so I took a snap of the view from our table.
Inside the little guesthouse where we stayed. Not shown: the tiny television on which Julie watched the Sound of Music three times.
And outside the guesthouse. That's our fancy red Mustang convertable!
A peacock lived there too. He kept pretty much to himself.
A view across the beach near the Blue Pool.
Julie surveying the Blue Pool, a fairly deep and extremely chilly body of water formed from a mountain spring waterfall, right on the edge of the beach just a few feet from the ocean. An amazing place.
The top of the Blue Pool waterfall, far above.
The sea being quite nearby.
Trapped behind the waterfall!
The Black Sand beach at Waianapanapa.
We hiked a little trail that may be familiar to some.
It was disturbingly green at times.
When the waves came in, the ground shook. We didn't swim here.
Nathan, smiling but holding on to that rock.
Julie demanded that we return to the Blue Pool again the next day. Brrr!
